When kinesiology tape is applied properly, it can actually interfere with pain signals sent to the brain, much like when you accidentally hit yourself on something and rub the area to make it feel better. Taping the injured area not only decreases inflammation, but helps the surrounding muscles to work normally, rather than becoming over worked due to overcompensation. If you injured your knee, for example, you may alter the way you walk (walking with a limp), and you are now making the rest of your surrounding leg muscles feel fatigued. Taping your injured knee will assist in the regular movement of the limb, therefore not disturbing your according ankle or hip.
